1. How to prepare your SurePal™
When you use SurePal™ you will need your:
- SurePal™
- Growth hormone cartridge
- Injection needle
You will also need a sharps box to throw the needle away after the injection, and alcohol swabs to clean your skin.You get these from your doctor or pharmacy.
1. How to prepare your SurePal™
Set the dose memory
(at beginning of therapy or
when your dose changes)
- First, you need to wash your hands. Then, take your SurePal™ apart.
- Open the dose memory lid and set the dose by turning the dose setting wheel until it tells you your dose. The number must line up with the lock symbol. In the example, the dose has been set to 2.5 mg.
- When you close the dose memory lid, it should click into place if the lid is closed properly.

Attach the pre-assembled cartridge
- Hold the cartridge with the wider side facing up (the smaller end should be at the bottom). Then, put the cartridge into the locking ring.
- Gently turn the cartridge until it moves down into the locking ring. Pull the cartridge down until you hear it click into the locking ring. If the cartridge does not turn, it is already in the right position.
Insert a cartridge into the locking ring.

Attach locking ring to SurePal™ body
- Attach the locking ring and cartridge back onto your SurePal™. Make sure the half circle on the locking ring and the dot on the SurePal™ body line up.
Push and turn the locking ring and cartridge back onto your device.
2. How to do a daily injection
Attach a needle
- Wipe the grey end of the cartridge with an alcohol swab.
- Remove the needle paper cover from the needle cap and push it onto the end of your SurePal™.
- Then, turn the needle cap clockwise to screw it on. Remember to save the cap for later.
- If you want to use the needle hider, the needle cap has to be removed before you can attach it.
Screw the needle onto your SurePal™.
2. How to do a daily injection
Turn the dose knob
- Gently turn the dose knob at the end of your SurePal™ until it stops. This means your pre-set dose is ready.
Note:
Make sure that the dose window shows you your correct dose. If it is not correct, unscrew the locking ring with its cartridge. Then press down on the sliding button until the dose window says "0.0-" Then pre-set the dose as described in section 1.

Insert the needle
- Your doctor should have told you where to inject. Clean the location for the injection with an alcohol swab.
- Remove the inner needle cap and throw it away. If you’re using the needle hider, pull the sliding sleeve of the needle hider in a little bit so you can take the inner cap off (don’t let your fingers cover the hole in the needle hider).
- Pinch a fold of skin to make a bump in the space you are going to do your injection in. Hold your SurePal™ upright with the other hand, and insert the needle into skin bump. If you are using the needle hider, gently push your SurePal™ into the skin bump, until the sliding sleeve is pushed all the way in.

2. How to do a daily injection
Inject your dose
- Slide the sliding button down and hold it there. You can stop holding the skin bump when you push the sliding button down.
- You will see the dose knob at the upper end of your SurePal™ turning around.
- Hold the sliding button down for 10 seconds after the dose knob stops turning and has returned to its original position. Then pull your SurePal™ away from your skin.
- Check that the dose window reads 0.0-.
Note: if the dose does not show 0.0- the cartridge has run out of medicine. You will need to change the empty cartridge for a new cartridge, get a new needle and finish the injection (See Section 4).
Push the sliding button down to inject into the skin bump.
3. How to store your SurePal™
Remove the needle
- Put the plastic needle cap back onto the needle.
- If you used the needle hider, take it off before putting the needle cap back on.
- Hold the locking ring with one hand and turn the needle anti-clockwise with the other hand so that it comes off.
- Throw the needle and cap into your sharps box right away.
Unscrew the covered needle.
3. How to store your SurePal™
Store SurePal™
- Leave the cartridge in your SurePal™.
- Put the cap back on your SurePal™.
- Put your SurePal™ in its hard case. There is also space for an additional cartridge and needles
- Put the hard case in the refrigerator.
Cartridges must always be stored in the refrigerator, between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius for 28 days max. It is recommended that you take the pen and cartridge(s) out of the refrigerator for 30 minutes before your injection, and put them back right after you inject.
4. How to change an empty cartridge
During injection
If the dose knob stopped turning before the dose window reached 0.0-:
- Take the needle off your pen and throw it into your sharps box.
- Turn the locking ring anti-clockwise and pull it away. Throw away the empty cartridge away.
- Don't move the dose knob or touch the sliding button!
- Put a new cartridge into the locking ring and attach the locking ring to your SurePal™.
- Attach a needle as described in step 2, but do not turn the dose knob again.
- Then carry on with your injection by pressing the sliding button as before. Attach a needle as described in step 2, but do not turn the dose knob again.
Note: your SurePal™ knows how much of your dose you still need, and the dose knob is already set to inject the right amount once you put a new cartridge in and attach a new needle.
